Updated team rankings

Analysis

Starkie’s takeover of the number-one spot in the player rankings is, of course, not due to any new data about him entering the records. Instead, this change has come about merely because of the background level ebb and flow that comes as older data holds progressively less influence over the rankings. It turns out that this is a favourable trend for Stark, as it has allowed his hit-rate and mileage numbers to marginally surpass those of team-mate Thalash who hitherto held first position.

Froyotech, meanwhile, have lost a good chunk of points due simply to the fact that neither of their prospective new medics holds a strong position in the rankings currently. Cookiejake only has the recent Froyo vs. Smiley match on record, and two of the three available distinctions available escaped him on that occasion. That leaves Cookiejake ranked only 275th. This is something that would improve significantly given only a short amount of time, so Froyo’s current slump to third in the team rankings is quite certain to be only brief. However, I undertand there are rumours that it is in fact Shade who will be Froyo’s more permanent solution. Shade himself is, in fact, unranked, so the situation with him is little different from that of Cookiejake. Nevertheless, whichever of the two holds the long-term position on the team, it shouldn’t take long for Froyo’s status in the team rankings to become more representative again.

The teams from the Beyond the Summit NA Qualifiers have also been added to the rankings. Among them, the victors, Ford Gaming, are ranked highest with 917.8 points. This puts them comfortably ahead of all RGL teams except Froyotech (who are just four points behind despite their medic quandaries) and less than forty points behind Ascent.EU.

Fellow finalists The Boomers are ranked the sixth-best team in the world between sauna slayers and Smiley. Heading into the Qualifiers, Rando, Ma3la, and Bdonski had all become unranked. With this tournament now added to the records, they’ve all received strong placements in the rankings. Bdonski is the highest of them all, ranked 52nd overall. Rando is further back in 89th ahead of Ma3la in 110th. Team mate Yight, with the achievements of Ascent still fresh in this ranking model’s memory, is ranked higher than ever in joint-13th. The same is true for Laz, who stood in for Highfive on Sunday.

At this point, five of the top eight teams in the rankings are North American, although with the BTS teams there is a small amount of player overlap between them. Of the remaining three, two are European in Ascent.EU and sauna slayers, while Australia have representation in Coffee Clock alone.

The other three top ozfortress teams have all made progress after their opening fixtures in Season 26, which were all against the other four teams in Premier, so none had to play against eachother. It was The Older Gamers who made the most progress of them all with almost 50 extra points, though they remain ranked fourth among the top quartet.

In Europe, Ora Elektro have made a big leap after a successful Week 2 match against Wer das liest ist doof in which Shock took three distinctions, climbing 355 places in the player rankings to 165th in the process. Ora are now ranked 11th overall, which equates to third in Europe. Sprite is another medic who was in an anonymous position before the season, but sauna slayers’ victory in the BTS EU Qualifier has elevated him an additional 68 places to 63rd overall, putting him third on the team behind only AMS and Scruff.

While The Bus Crew continue to drop positions as they settle into a representative position in the rankings, their demoman NasBoii continues to produce outstanding numbers in matches whether they win or lose. Despite only winning a map or two since i65, NasBoii is climbing further and further up the player rankings. He’s now 47th with over 900 points and a distinction hit-rate of 63.2% – a figure that’s actually trending upwards despite his team’s recent losses.

King’s Crew have overtaken Dunk Masters after they, albeit with a variably modified roster, put on a strong showing in the BTS Qualifiers. They’ve gained just shy of 85 points for their efforts.
